Here are some common questions about our company.

We’re a small family business and don’t have the resources to keep standard carts sitting on shelves. Every cart we produce is made to order, which can mean a slightly longer delivery window, but it also ensures each cart is handmade to the highest quality.

All products are crafted to your specifications, allowing us to be very responsive to your needs. Most standard cart orders take 3 weeks to manufacture, while bespoke cart lead times depend on the complexity of the design. Delivery time is additional to the manufacturing period.

We keep our costs fair by staying true to who we are, a small, hands-on family business. Every cart is made to order, so we don’t have expensive stock sitting on shelves or large overheads to pass on to our customers.

A big part of this is having the right skills in house. Alex, our founder, brings a wide range of expertise including CAD design, engineering, fabrication, and electronics. These skills were developed through university study and years of hands on experience driven by his passion for robotics. Because we design and build everything ourselves, we don’t need to outsource different stages of production, which helps keep both quality high and costs controlled.

The only process we outsource is powder coating, ensuring a professional, durable finish while we focus on what we do best: building solid, reliable carts tailored to your needs.

Yes, absolutely.

While film and TV carts are our speciality, we’ve built a wide variety of custom projects over the years. This includes industrial carts, specialist workshop carts, and even a beer cart!

We’ve also developed practical TV and film equipment, such as our aluminium flag frame. That product was originally created for a crew member who was tired of his flag frames bending in the wind and it’s now available in our accessories section because it worked so well.

If you’ve got an idea, run it by Alex. With his design and engineering experience, you can work together to bring it to life. We’re always happy to explore new challenges and build something that genuinely solves a problem.

We deliver anywhere in Mainland UK. Delivery charges are calculated at checkout and will vary depending on the weight of the order and the delivery location.

You’re also very welcome to collect your order in person from our workshop, of course, there are no delivery charges for collection.

For international orders, we can arrange delivery on a case-by-case basis. Please email us to discuss shipping options and pricing.

All Hippo Carts are made to order in our UK workshop, so delivery times include both manufacturing and shipping. Once your cart is complete, it is dispatched via next-day delivery. Please see above for current manufacturing times.

If you prefer to collect your cart in person, you are very welcome to do so. We will contact you to arrange a convenient collection date once your cart has been completed.

As a small, family-run business building each cart to demand, lead times can vary depending on your specific order and current workload. Please contact us for a detailed delivery or collection estimate tailored to your purchase.

Come and visit Us?

We don’t have a showroom, as we’re a fully working workshop. However, if you’d like to see our setup or arrange an in-person meeting, please get in touch and we’ll happily organise a suitable date. 

Our nearest train station is Tutbury & Hatton, which is just a short taxi ride away from us.

If you’re travelling from further afield, Derby is the closest major train station. From Derby, you can take the Villager Bus 1 to Foss Road, Hilton,  we’re then around a 10 minute walk from the bus stop.
